Wait. This is a difficult word for those who are strong willed and independant. It is a word most people do not like. Waiting room. Wait here. Wait for me. Wait until I’m done. Wait until the weekend. Wait until I feel better.
Webster dictionary says this:
WAIT: (verb)
Stay where one is or delay action until a particular time or until something else happens.
As I explained in the previous blog, I have three words this year. Pray. Wait. Trust. All three our action words which makes WAIT a pretty strange one. So many of us are waiting for the next thing. The next relationship. The next job. The next promotion. The next child. The next car. We all seem to be waiting on the next thing. What happens when the “next thing” happens? We start waiting all over again.
Why is that we always seem to be waiting? I personally get very tired of waiting. I used to wait for every payday to arrive but God delivered me from that. If only He would deliver us from situations WITHOUT the wait. Take for instance this house. I feel like I have been waiting for ever for this house to get worked on.
But! What happens in the waiting? Are we gleaning the right attitude and perspective in the waiting process? Are we allowing God to heal us so that in some instances we don’t have to go through another waiting process? Are we truly understanding the reasons why God has us waiting?
If we truly believe God has our best interests in mind, then waiting should be a marvelous time of revelation and cultivating patience. It should become a time of refreshing and rest. Even though waiting is a verb, requiring action on our part, it doesn’t mean we have to wear ourselves out during the waiting process. Perhaps if we could stop ourseleves from trying to figure everything out Gods plan could just begin to unfold right before our eyes.
Perhaps waiting simply means pausing for a moment so we can clearly hear the next step. Maybe waiting causes us to inherit the better things God has for us.
