Are You Worthy of Rescue?

IMG_9489

What do you think of when you think of a flood?  How many of us are afraid of water?  How many of you have had a flooded basement?  Any of you stranded in a flood in your city?  How much of an inconvenience is a flood in any shape or form?  How many things are destroyed by a flood?  All of these things are negative descriptions of a flood.  A dreary outlook for life, let me hand you a way out of the flood.

Let’s change the word flood to represent “words” for the purpose of this blog tonight.  I would like to give a slight understanding to what the word “water” represents in the Bible.  Our Home Group is studying More Than Words by Robert Morris and tonight we discussed how water meant” words” in several verses in the Bible. Here is one I will use as an example:

Isaiah 59:19 NKJ

So shall they fear The name of the Lord from the west, And His glory from the rising of the sun; When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him.

So take the word “flood” and replace it with “water” with the understanding that water means “words”.  Get it?  You might have to read that again as it is tricky.  For further revelation let’s put this into a world perspective. It’s been a long day.  You overslept and was late for work.  Your boss called you unreliable.  Your coworker smiled to your face when you came in but was found talking about you later.  Your lunch from the local restaurant was cold.  You ran out of gas on your way home.  Your spouse was mad because dinner was not ready and hit ALL of your “I’m not good enough” buttons.  You discover you don’t have enough ingredients for dinner.  It’s just been a horrible day and the negative thoughts start rolling in like a fog:

You are lazy!  You can’t do anything right!  You don’t deserve hot food anyways!  You are probably going to lose your job.  Your coworkers don’t like you.  Your life has no meaning.  You can’t even make dinner. You are stuck on stupid!  You are not a good spouse. You are so forgetful!

Do see the flood waters rising?  The enemy comes in and FLOODS your mind with EVERY negative word he can come up with.  He wants you to feel defeated, no good and to give up.  He does this day in and day out 365 and sometimes 366 days a year.  Over and Over and Over he piles on the accusations until we crack under the pressure and allow the flood to take us over.   How can we possibly come up against this?

We need to KNOW who we are in Christ 24/7.  We need to seek the Word to find out who we are and how God sees us.  You need the Word in you to build up your spiritual immune systems.  You could call the Bible a anti-virus.  It is what you need to withstand the flood of words the enemy throws at you.  God will always come to your rescue and take care of the enemy.  If you read the same scripture in the Message Bible you will see a very EXCELLENT and VIVID picture of what God will do, however do you believe it?  Do you believe you are worthy of rescue?

Isaiah 59:19

God looked and saw evil looming on the horizon— so much evil and no sign of Justice. He couldn’t believe what He saw: not a soul around to correct this awful situation. So He did it himself, took on the work of Salvation, fueled by His own Righteousness. He dressed in Righteousness, put it on like a suit of armor, with Salvation on His head like a helmet, Put on Judgment like an overcoat, and threw a cloak of Passion across His shoulders. He’ll make everyone pay for what they’ve done: fury for His foes, just deserts for His enemies. Even the far-off islands will get paid off in full. In the west they’ll fear the name of God, in the east they’ll fear the glory of God, For He’ll arrive like a river in flood stage, whipped to a torrent by the wind of God.

Yes! You are WORTHY of rescue and His Word tells you that!  Over and Over in scripture God is showing you just how much He loves you.  In His stories He moves heaven and earth because of His great love for His people.

Romans 15:7 says you are ACCEPTED!

Romans 6:6 says those who believe in Christ are NO LONGER SLAVES to sin!

Jeremiah 1:5 says you are APPOINTED!

I Peter 2:9 says you are Gods’ SPECIAL POSSESSION!

Ephesians 2:10 says you are Gods’ HANDI-WORK

Oh I could go on for paragraphs but I will let you seek out for yourself what a treasure you are to God.  What I am trying to convey is that when you begin to grab hold of who you are in Christ you will be able to be calm in the storm.  You will see the flood waters rising and not be moved.  Each wave that goes higher and higher can be canceled out with every statement you make against the lies of the enemy.

I am good enough!  I am loved!  I am accepted!  I am wanted!  I am smart!  I am created in the image of God Himself!  I am reliable!  I am worthy of love!

The more GOD Words you can use towards yourself the less the devil will take ground.  Yes, God will stand up for you and yes you only need to be still, however what a wonderful feeling it is to hold your head up during the storm not even giving thought to the lies.
