God made the heavens— Royal splendor radiates from him, A powerful beauty sets him apart.
Today let’s look at what it means to “behold”. I found the dictionary defines it as:
be•hold (bɪˈhoʊld)
v. be•held, be•hold•ing,
interj. v.t.
1. to observe; look at; see.
interj.
2. look; see.
If this is the case and God is beauty then, what are we actually looking at? If God is in us then what are other people seeing? If we are professing to be Christians, what are others observing in our lives? What do we see in other Christians? Perhaps here is a better question: What do we want others to see in our lives? When we are being hit with the biggest disasters of our lives, what wreckage are we leaving from our storm? Even when we are going through our own personal storms, people are watching to see what God will do.
Our life is not our own when we surrender it to God, therefore, what those around us should see when they look at us is a reflection of God Himself, right? Why are so many of us projecting an image to the public that really isn’t who we are?
I know for me, for several years I was the life of the party. I drank and I smoked. I danced at the bar and flirted. Even though I was a church goer on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights, no one would have guessed that by the way I was living my life. At that particular time in my world, I was just trying to fit in, not be a reflection of God and what He wanted others to see in me. In that moment of my life I was living for me and my desires, not willing at that point to be used by God.
So how do we get to that place where others begin to see the beauty of God in you? Well, one word sums it all up….surrender. We have to be willing to give it all up for His glory. We need to be ready to do whatever He asks us to do in a moments notice. We have to come to terms with the fact that once we choose Jesus to be Lord of our lives, we are no longer in charge.
I challenge each of us to examine our own lives. What do others see? What do we really stand for? Are we willing to do what it takes to become a lighthouse for Jesus? Are we living a life worthy of being beheld for His glory? I know, these are some tough questions but the responsibility of representing Jesus is great and so worth every minute of it. Allow God to begin a new work in you today. Be prepared for Him to use you in ways you never expected. Be open to the possibilities.
