Matthew 1:18
This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Could you even imagine what Mary was facing as she encountered the angel that night? She was filled with such wonder and excitement and concern and glory. Was she really ready to bring Jesus into this world? How could God possibly have chosen her to birth the savior? Did He know who He was picking to birth such a wonderful gift to the broken hearted? When I was listening to a sermon on this the other day, I pondered this thought, are we really ready to carry Jesus into this world? Are we ready to face the opposition and carnal minded people? Are we willing to go to all lengths to proclaim His mighty power?
Mary gave all she had to carry Jesus into this world. She was not married yet and knew she would face questions from family and friends, yet she boldly told her testimony to everyone she knew. How excited she must have been retelling her story of the angel or of the beautiful baby she was carrying inside. Are we that excited when we share Jesus? Do we tell everyone we meet about this wonderful savior or are we too shy and afraid to tell our testimony? Do we not share Jesus because we fear persecution or being misunderstood?
Everywhere we go, we should be carrying Jesus with us. We should not fear sharing Him with anyone. God has bestowed in us the privileged of carrying His only Son in our hearts which gives us the same opportunity that Mary had, sharing Jesus with the world. Just the other day I was in a Christian Bookstore and I witnessed God in action. As I began to share with this total stranger about how much God loved him, I could see tears welling up in his eyes. Why would we not want to share this love with others around us? We cannot accept Jesus into our hearts and expect Him to stay locked up there forever.
Think back to when you accepted Jesus for the first time. Who played a role in bringing Jesus into your life? What if that person or persons had not stepped out in faith and shared the Jesus they had in their hearts? There are so many broken and hurting people out there just waiting to hear some Good News. Are you willing to share the Jesus you carry with you?
Are you willing to give birth to your testimony so that others may see Jesus?
