Just the other day my husband and I ordered breadsticks and a salad from a local pizza place in town and what conspired in the next fifteen minutes just completely blew my mind. Let me preface this story just a bit. My husband and I are evangelists by nature and often we leave our waiters or waitresses in tears. Usually my husband has a word of knowledge about them and he speaks into their circumstances with life giving words of love. Sometimes we just feel led to leave our business card with an encouraging word or a Bible verse written on it.
Jesus makes it clear that we have two simple commandments in the New Testament: to love one another and to share the Gospel where ever you go. To the best of our abilities this is how we operate as a couple. I must admit there are times when we were first together that I was afraid my future husband was invading on people’s private lives until I began to see the changes in people. So I should not have been surprised when John invited the pizza delivery man in for a minute after he already paid him….
It all started with the tip. I heard the young man genuinely thank John for the tip and then my husband asked him to hold on for a second and came back in the house to get more for him. As the delivery guy stood in amazement I heard him say he had just lost his dad and that’s when John felt compelled to ask him inside for a moment. What happened next was something I witnessed everywhere just not in my very own living room. As John had compassion for this 19 year old young man, he led him to ask Jesus into his heart. I could visibly see him change right in front of us. It was really amazing to see someone look so drained at their circumstances and then accept God into their lives. That was a day that I will never forget.
As Christians sometimes I think we put salvation in a box and we only take it out in certain “zones”. Church. Bible Studies. Christian concerts. Prayer groups. Vacation Bible School. We need to begin to think outside of the box and realize that the whole earth is a God Zone. God’s heart is that none shall perish and with this knowledge we should be sharing Jesus where ever we go…in ANY zone. I know for me personally I fear offending people sometimes and my husband reminded me that the Bible does offend people sometimes. If God is for us, then who can be against us? A wise person once said that when people say no to salvation, they are not rejecting us personally they are rejecting God.
So I shared this story not to brag that the Czarniak’s won another one for the Kingdom but to encourage all of us that EVERYONE needs salvation and if we have to convert the world one pizza guy at a time than that is our mission!
