“Don’t bargain with God. Be direct. Ask for what you need. This isn’t a cat-and-mouse, hide-and-seek game we’re in. If your child asks for bread, do you trick him with sawdust? If he asks for fish, do you scare him with a live snake on his plate? As bad as you are, you wouldn’t think of such a thing. You’re at least decent to your own children. So don’t you think the God who conceived you in love will be even better?
This is a story about a kitten, two people madly in love and a man in need of a companion. Only God could put this story together and so for some it may seem “made up” but I assure you….it is not. My husband and I are currently living with my 82 year old dad in his basement. We moved in while we were searching for a place to live and now, due to the deterioration of my fathers’ health, we have made the decision to stay to take care of him. Dad at first was ready to have us move, he just wanted his space (even though we are hardly ever home) and so he would ask when we were moving.
We attempted once to move and God did not allow it. Soon after we tried to move, dad fell a series of 3 times in a few months and that is when we came to the conclusion God had has there for a reason. Now when we go on vacation the first thing dad asks is when we are coming home. So one day we were talking about pets and dad said he would not mind having a dog. We chatted about the idea and decided it was not a good one since we were hardly ever home and he wouldn’t be able to let the dog out all day on his own. I brought up the subject of a cat and surprisingly dad got excited.
I posted on Facebook that John and I were looking for a kitten and two became available. We prayed about it and chose a 9 week old Siamese kitten. Now, to back track just a little and I ask that no one judges us…but John and I always talked about our imaginary pets, Spot and LuLu. I am not sure when they entered the picture, but we talked about them often, never dreaming we would actually get a pet. So we knew if we got a girl pet, it would be called LuLu and a boy of course would be Spot.
After we decided to get the kitten, we arrived at the house to pick her up. We chatted with the owner of the kittens for a moment, seeking details about its life and asked if she had been named. The lady informed us that she had no name yet and I excitedly blurted, “Good! Her name is LuLu!” The lady looked at me with this puzzled look and asked what I just said. Now of course my brain was thinking she thinks I am nuts because that’s a crazy name for a cat, but instead she shared the most amazing story with us.
She began to explain that this lady who boards horses at her house looked at the kittens just days before we picked her up and she pointed to our kitten and said, “This one should be named LuLu. Tell the people who get her that’s what they should name it.” I was so overwhelmed by the Father’s love in that moment I was almost brought to tears. We did not know this lady we got the kitten from. I never mentioned anything on Facebook or to anyone for that matter about Spot and LuLu, so only God would know.
It just amazes me that we serve a God who knows everything about us. He sees us. He loves us. He gives us the desires of our hearts. He is faithful. He answers prayers and directs our paths when we allow Him to. I pray this blog just touched someone’s heart about how the Father truly loves us. I am still in awe at what He has done for me not only in the last three years but my entire life. He is a good Daddy and He loves you for who you are. He hears your prayers.
P.S… By the way, LuLu and dad had an instant bond! Dad’s face lit up like a Christmas tree when we put LuLu in his lap. God knew we wanted a kitten and He also knew my dad needed a companion while we were not home. God is Good!!!
