Change IS Good

Joel 2:13-14

Change your life, not just your clothes. Come back to God, your God. And here’s why: God is kind and merciful. He takes a deep breath, puts up with a lot, This most patient God, extravagant in love, always ready to cancel catastrophe. Who knows? Maybe he’ll do it now, maybe he’ll turn around and show pity. Maybe, when all’s said and done, there’ll be blessings full and robust for your God!

I know, some of you may disagree with the above title, but really, change is good.  Change is what grows you up.  Change is what makes you desire to be better.  Change is really a fact of life.  I know many of us cringe when we hear that silly word often because it might just take us out of our comfort zones.  The word change is defined as:

1change

verb \ˈchānj\

: to become different

: to make (someone or something) different

: to become something else

If we look at the worlds perspective, people are always trying to get others to change.  Advertisements try to sway us one way or another.  However, with God, change usually means to better oneself for the good of humanity.  From the moment we accept Jesus God begins to change our hearts and it is always for the better.  When John and I met I was blonde. I had been dying my hair since I was 18.  A few months after being married, he said he wondered what I would look like in my natural color, so I colored my hair back to it’s original color.  Now, the change for me was good, I actually liked it, however, I then had to deal with why I changed my hair color in the first place.

The answer to it was that I was changing it to fit in for some reason.  I wish I had changed back to my natural color before our wedding because now photos after just a few months of marriage do not match my wedding photos.  I don’t really know why I colored my hair for so many years but part of it was because my ex-husband liked me blonde.  When I went through the process of changing back to the normal color, I soon realized that I might have done it for John at first, but soon I saw that it really was who I am.

So why did I ramble on about dying my hair?  Because it brings to light that change is good and usually for both parts of the relationship.  Changing requires choosing to be different than you were.  Sometimes in relationships, change has to happen so that the love can grow. Just like plants, sometimes we need bigger pots to grow in and with each stage of growth we get uprooted temporarily and replanted in a better place.
